Help One Person Every Day… HOPE.
The new local non-profit organization Hope for Good will be hosting the Hoops for Hope 3-on-3 basketball tournament this August 20-22, 2021.
The Hoops for Hope event brings people from the local community and surrounding states together for a weekend of family fun. Hoops for Hope is being run by the original founders of Share’s Hoops on the River event, which for over a decade has brought thousands of people to Vancouver for a fun and athletic weekend. “We are back and excited to continue our work bringing people together,” says cofounders Steve and Susie Oberst.
This year the event will be held at the Vancouver Mall with plans to expand back to the waterfront in the future. Their mission is not only to make HOOPS for HOPE the premier basketball tournament in Southwest Washington but also to benefit local veterans, low-income families of our community and to create a youth scholarship fund. “This scholarship will give youth the support they need to pursue their talents and passion, attend various sports camps, play league sports, or other activities, which will enrich their lives– on and off the court.”
Cofounder Steve Oberst goes on to say “We have heard recently about how so many people are looking forward to positive and family-friendly activities in the wake of the pandemic. This has been a key attractor for our efforts to revive this amazing event and we are excited to offer families in our community an opportunity to celebrate and smile again.”
Teams of all ages and skill levels, families, and sports enthusiasts are all welcome. The Les Schwab Center Court will showcase players in our community, demonstrate their skills in Slam Dunk contests, 3-point shoot-outs, and other fun activities.
