“Before you judge me, walk a mile in my shoes.” While there aren’t many situations where I can literally walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, I CAN actually lace up my shoes and walk or run to help those in need in our community at the Friends of the Poor 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
The Friends of the Poor 5k raises funds to help serve those in our community in need of food, clothing, shelter and emergency assistance with rent, utilities, and transportation through the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
The fun begins at the Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater in downtown Vancouver at 218 West 12th Street. The 5K route will take you along the beautiful Columbia River waterfront and cross over the Highway 14 freeway; you will enjoy visiting the old apple tree and travel into the historic Fort Vancouver National Park. The event concludes at the Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater for awards and refreshments.
For those that are pre-registered, please plan to pick up your t-shirts and goody bags beginning Friday evening, September 29 at the Proto-Cathedral from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Or you can arrive as early as 7:30 am on Saturday, September 30th. Opening ceremonies begin around 8:30 am.
