Fort Vancouver National Trust Seeks Nominations for the 2017 Marshall Leadership Awards

The Fort Vancouver National Trust is seeking nominations for the 2017 Marshall Adult Leadership Award and Marshall Youth Leadership Award.

This distinguished program is presented by Riverview Community Bank, and the accolades honor candidates who emulate the leadership qualities and commitment to public service demonstrated by General George C. Marshall. Marshall served as Commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade at Vancouver Barracks before serving as chief of Staff of the U.S. Army during World War II, and ultimately being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.


Nominees for the adult Marshall Adult Leadership Award must be a resident of Clark County, 35 years of age or under and have completed a four-year college degree. Selection is based on demonstrated leadership ability, commitment to public service, academic achievement and potential for an ongoing active role in public service.

The recipient of the General George C. Marshall Adult Leadership Award will receive:
* A $2,200 stipend towards a trip to the Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Virginia, Colonial Williamsburg and Washington, D.C.
* Opportunities to meet and develop relationships with community leaders
* A scholarship to participate in the Leadership Clark County Program ($2,650 program), a nine-month course designed to enhance public leadership skills

Nominees for the Marshall Youth Leadership Award must be enrolled in high school (or home-schooled) at the 12th-grade level and a resident of Clark County. Selection is based on the nominee’s activities and projects demonstrating the values of General Marshall represented as one of America’s leading citizens and soldiers.

The recipient of the General George C. Marshall Youth Leadership Award will receive:
* $2,500 college scholarship sponsored by 40 Et 8
* $500 paid summer internship in the Trust’s Celebrate Freedom office
* Opportunity to meet with local elected representatives
* Opportunity to participate in Celebrate Freedom events including Independence Day at Fort Vancouver, Flag Day at Fort Vancouver and Veterans Parade at Fort Vancouver

Nominations for the Public Leadership Award must be submitted by Friday, February 17. Nominations for the Youth Leadership Award must be submitted by Wednesday, February 15. Both award nominations may be submitted by individuals or organizations, and must be received by 5 p.m. on due dates. Nomination forms are available at fortvan.org/marshallawards or may be picked up at the Trust’s offices (General O.O. Howard House, 750 Anderson St., Vancouver, WA). Nominations are reviewed and selections are made by Marshall Leadership Award committees facilitated by the Trust.

The 2017 Award Recipients will be announced and honored at a joint award ceremony on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Providence Academy. Each nominee will receive tickets to the dinner.
