Are you a good dancer or a bad dancer? Or as they said in the ’40s, are you a ducky shincracker or dead hoofer?
Either way, grab your sweetheart and dance the night away at the Annual Sweetheart Dance fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of Fort Vancouver on Saturday, February 9th from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Historic Hanger at Pearson Air Museum (1115 East Fifth Street). Tickets are $30 and all proceeds from the night will help educational outreach programs offered throughout the at the national park.
Have fun, socialize, and dance to your heart’s content with “big band” music provided by the VanPort Jazz Band. Add to the atmosphere by wearing vintage 1940s styles or vintage US military uniforms, although not required. Guests can also enjoy a no-host bar.
While this event serves as a fundraiser for the Friends of Fort Vancouver, it also brings forth the World War II history of the Fort. The Fort Vancouver National Historic Site served as a passthrough grounds for soldiers on their way overseas. Thousands of workers constructed aircraft carriers and Liberty ships at the Kaiser Shipyards and the city was booming. A rich history worthy of recognition.
Tickets can be purchased at the Fort Vancouver’s bookstore (inside the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center) or online at the Friends of Fort Vancouver. Tickets are limited, so grab your’s while you still can!
