“I wish kids came with an instruction manual!” Unfortunately, they don’t… but this is the next best thing!
Beginning Wednesday, January 9th through Wednesday, May 8th, each Wednesday, West Van for Youth and Children’s Home Society will be offering a free 18-week parenting class for up to ten parents who live in the following zip codes: 98660, 98661, and 98663. The class is for parents or caregivers of children ages two through eight. Classes will be from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at 1112 Columbia St. Child care and a light dinner will be provided.
Throughout the classes, parents and caregivers will learn positive and nurturing parenting skills. Practices such as child-directed play, promoting language, social and emotional coaching, handling separations and reunions, effective limit setting, and handling misbehavior. These skills will be taught through interactive teaching and hands-on coaching. Studies have shown that when parents receive such training kids are less likely to have behavioral problems at home and in school or use drugs later in life.
