Digging Up Fun at Fort Vancouver This Summer

hey! sharing is caring :)

You are invited this summer to come and check out what is happening at the archaeological sites located at Fort Vancouver.

Everyone is welcome (Tuesdays through Saturdays) between June 27th to July 28th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn about how archaeologists study the past as the National Park Service archaeologists team up with Portland State University and Washington State University Vancouver.

Students and professionals will be conducting archaeological excavations in the area of the Vancouver Barracks north of East Fifth Street, near the Post Exchange Building.

The focus this summer will be on Hudson’s Bay Company fur trade and U.S. military sites.

In addition to having the chance to see a glimpse of history being uncovered, be sure to check out the special summer lecture series and the national park’s popular “Kids Dig!”.

Your Kids Will Dig It!

This popular program gives kiddos ages 8 to 12 the opportunity to excavate a mock site with the help of student archaeologists and discover what we can learn about the past from the artifacts buried under our feet.

Kids Dig! will take place on July 1st, 8th and 22nd at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm, inside the reconstructed Fort Vancouver.

Space is limited so be sure to reserved a spot by calling 360-816-6250. Click here to learn more.

Archaeologies of People, Things, and Protected Places

This public series will explore the topics of indigenous archaeology, the archaeology of the fur trade and military and the archaeology of the oldest national park in the world.

Come on out on June 29th, July 13th, 20th and 27th (at 7:00 pm) to the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center and learn from the experts. Check out more details online.
