As you may have heard over the last few days, the Sheriff’s office is looking at a proposed cut of $2.67 million in its budget for 2017-2018. Some possible outcomes may be the complete closure of the Central Precinct, suspending expansion of the jail re-entry program, canceling the reserve deputy and citizen academies over the next two years, and cutting other services.
Sheriff Atkins’ will hold three town hall meetings to discuss the sheriff’s budget in light of significant proposed cuts. Please come and let your voice be heard!
Town hall meeting locations:
November 3rd, 6:30-8:00 PM
Three Creeks Community Library
800 NE Tenney Road, Salmon Creek
November 9th, 6:30-8:00 PM
Camas Public Library
625 NE 4th Ave, Camas
November 10th, 6:30-8:00 PM
Battle Ground Community Center
912 E Main St, Battle Ground
At this time, the department has already moved the schedule for their Reserve Academy to every other year instead of holding it yearly. Having a bi-yearly academy has already had an effect on their numbers; they are losing more than they are able to replace, which is a detriment to the community and department in general.
The Sheriff is holding the above series of town hall meetings. Show your support by attending one of these meetings and encouraging the department in finding a way to NOT cancel the reserve academy.
