    Chalk the Walks 2011

Discover the Magical Power of Sidewalk Chalk.

Smile. Hope. Joy. Wahoo! These are just some of the possible messages you can use for Chalk the Walks on August 23, 2011.

What exactly is Chalk the Walks?

Chalk the Walks (a project of The Joy Team) is all about spreading joy, optimism and inspiration through the magical power of sidewalk chalk.

Remember when you were a kid and you’d draw pictures and write happy thoughts with chalk in your driveway and down the sidewalks of your  street? And the adults always smiled when they read the big, pastel-colored messages? This is just like that. Only we’re bigger now. And we don’t have to go in the house when the street lights go out.

The idea is as simple as it was in childhood: write happy messages, have fun doing it, spread some joy while you’re at it.

Any day is a great day to spread joy, optimism and inspiration through the magical power of sidewalk chalk, but many efforts are most powerful when done in unison en mass. So, we’re picking one day to for us all to spend 10 minutes outside writing an uplifting message in chalk on your sidewalk, driveway or parking lot: Tuesday, August 23, 2011.”

Umpqua Bank is joining in the fun, too. Not only will they be chalking, but they will be giving away sidewalk chalk beginning Wednesday, August 10 to anyone who tells them, “I want to Chalk the Walks”.

Don’t want to chalk alone? Join the fun at Esther Short Park between 10 am and 1 pm on August 23 with Michele from The Joy Team, Open House Ministries, Be the Gift and others.

I’ll be chalking on Tuesday, August 23, 2011…how about you?
