The Camas-Washougal Historical Society was presented a check for $7,500 from The Honorable Frank L. and Arlene J. Price Foundation at the Two Rivers Heritage Museum.
The grant will be used for the Gathering Place at Washuxwal project, a Native American-inspired longhouse replica to be located on the south side of the museum. The structure will resemble something of a Native American cedar plank house that once dotted the region. The pavilion will also have Native American carvings and artwork. The Gathering Place is expected to help attract tourists, educational field trips and history lovers to the Two Rivers Heritage Museum and the community.
“We are honored that The Price Foundation chose to accept our grant proposal and is helping to make our vision a reality,” said Jim Cobb, CWHS President. The Price Foundation was created to aid in funding for education, health, and historical preservations in Clark and Cowlitz Counties and this grant is doing just that.
While there are still funds to be raised for this project, this grant has helped get them that much closer. “This project is truly knitting together the past and future, I can see busloads of students arriving here, some not excited to go inside an old museum, but that will be thrilled to explore information at the pavilion.” Mayor Molly Coston of Washougal.
