Don’t worry, there will no pumpkin carving with lightsabers! But, a fun carved pumpkin voting contest, kids’ fall crafts, a special ribbon cutting, arts shows, fall shopping and dining, and a Star Wars costume contest are all part of the festivities for October’s First Friday in Downtown Camas, October 7, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Join in the fun of the 11th Annual Pumpkin Pageant. This year, people are invited to show off their carving prowess and enter a pumpkin in the “pageant” with a chance to win prizes and bragging rights! Participating downtown businesses will also each have a carved pumpkin and there will be a People’s Choice Vote for the favorite. Voting enters you to win fall-themed prizes from the merchants, and the People’s Choice winner also receives a prize basket.
Show off you love of Star Wars and take part in the Star Wars Costume Contest. Prizes for Best Costume Winners and Runners up for both adults and children will be awarded. Contest starts at 7pm in Journey Church, 304 NE 4th. Sign up that night in Journey between 5:00 pm and 6:45 pm.
Enjoy the Ribbon Cutting and Open House Celebration for the new Mill Lobby Interpretive Center at 401 NE Adams. Mill timeline history, mill artifacts and historic product, videos about mill history, and the newly refurbished lobby will all be on display for the community to enjoy. Mill historians will be on hand as well. Ribbon cutting will take place at 5:00 pm.
“Everyone loves Star Wars so we are hopeful to have some really good costume entries!”says Carrie Schulstad, Executive Director of the Downtown Camas Association (DCA). “We have been anxiously awaiting the mill lobby unveil and it will be a wonderful way for people to stay connected with our town’s history. They’ve done a beautiful job. We hope everyone can come out for the ribbon cutting at 5pm and celebrate what Georgia Pacific has done.”
