The tradition of talented local artists painting the charming Downtown Camas landscape for September First Friday will continue this year with the “Plein Air and Art Event” on September 3, 2021.
Watch for artists painting plein air (open air) throughout town from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and then see their works of art at the showing in front of Camas Gallery (408 NE 4th) from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. You’re invited to vote for your favorite in the People’s Choice voting.
Art games, free crayons for little artists, and art activities throughout the downtown businesses will add to this festive First Friday event from 5:00 Pm to 8:00 PM.
Artful activities that night will include:
- Art Guessing Game “Name that Famous Art” throughout town with prizes. There will be a fun art guessing game for young art lovers as well.
- Do the Downtown Mural Tour Game and be entered to win.
- Art Show and reception in Attic Gallery, 421 NE Cedar, featuring Jean Schwalbe’s colorful paintings, a popular staple in this gallery.
- Ribbon Cutting and Grand Re-Opening for Phaysone SkinCare ( 419 NE 4th) at 5:00 PM. Phaysone makes skincare her art form.
- Art demonstrations in several downtown locations.
- Kids’ arts & crafts at LiveWell Camas, (417 NE Birch). For the little artists that come, fill a crayon box that night with free crayons collected at the participating merchants throughout town. Pick up your free crayon box to be filled at LiveWell Camas.
- Live Outdoor Music hosted by Mesa (228 NE 4th).
Shop, dine, and have artful fun in Downtown Camas. Start your evening by picking up a First Friday Passport and Activity list at the DCA table by Papermaker pride at 4th and Cedar.
“This event truly celebrates the amazing local talent we have in Camas and surrounding area,” says Carrie Schulstad, director of the Downtown Camas Association (DCA). “It is always so meaningful to see the artists painting throughout town and many are very happy to share their technique and inspiration with those passing by. It’s interesting to see what they choose to paint. Young and old can enjoy the art activities in town and in the downtown businesses. Join us for an incredibly artful downtown experience!”
First Fridays are Art, Activities, Dining, and After Hours Shopping themed family friendly events coordinated by the DCA each month of the year to support downtown and bring the community together.
