Get ready for a botanical adventure on August 27, 2017, at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
Start off by checking in at the Old Apple Tree Park (112 SE Columbia Way) for a 2 for 1 walking tour.
First, you will explore the Land Bridge and its “Ethno-botanical Garden” of native plants, most of which were used by the indigenous people of the area for food, medicine, crafts, building materials, and more.
Second, you will be expertly guided by knowledgeable botanic enthusiast, Jim Pestillo as you check out the plants typical of mid-19th century England.
Finally, round out the day and check out a film preview and Q&A session about Scottish Botanist David Douglas.
This is the first film ever produced about David Douglas (1799-1834), the remarkable plant hunter from Scotland.
He is the namesake for the Douglas Fir and Vancouver’s David Douglas Park. He was an environmentalist before his time, and encouraged an appreciation of the natural world.
