Last call for volunteers for Independence Day Celebration at Fort Vancouver!

The Fort Vancouver National Trust still has openings for dedicated volunteers to lend a hand at one of Vancouver’s most iconic summer events: Independence Day at Fort Vancouver on Monday, July 4th, 2016. Last year more than 250 volunteers helped at the event, which was attended by more than 35,000 people.

“This is a fun event for volunteers, because they only have to commit to a few hours of work, and then they have access to all the festivities going on throughout the day,” said program manager, Natalie Hantho. She said the principal need is for volunteers to help out at the entrance gates, scanning tickets or collecting admission.

Volunteer shifts are just a few hours long, after a short training session either on June 22 at 5:30 p.m. or June 25 at 9 a.m. All volunteers receive free admission, a parking pass, volunteer T-shirt and reusable water bottle. Individuals, service organizations, corporate groups and all others are encouraged to volunteer.

“Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Independence Day celebration. Without them, it would be impossible for our small staff to produce and manage this popular community event,” said Mike True, Director and CEO of Fort Vancouver National Trust. “Not only can they enjoy the event as spectators, they have the satisfaction of knowing they were an integral part of making Independence Day a great event for the entire community.”
