Do you enjoy the great outdoors? Are you interested in local history and our native plants and wildlife? Then become a Stream Steward! It’s fun and FREE! Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam sponsors the Stream Stewards program for those interested in making a difference in the great outdoors.
All Stream Stewards receive hands-on experience and teaching opportunities, plus the fun of teaming up with like-minded individuals. Upon completion of the workshops, Stewards have greater understanding of the critical components of a healthy environment, including what makes a healthy habitat and how societies affect habitat.
During the Program, Stewards attend classes on six Saturdays; September 24, October 1, 8, 15, 27, 29, and November 5, from 8:30am to 2:00pm, and five Tuesdays; September 27, October 4, 11, 18, 25, and November 1, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. There is also an optional Leader Training which is offered on Saturday, October 15.
After completing training, Stream Stewards from a variety of backgrounds support StreamTeam by leading school presentations on salmon conservation, organizing tree planting groups, combating invasive knotweed and more.
“I knew I was bound to meet new people while getting in some healthy and purposeful work,” says Sonya, a Stream Steward since 2008. “The diversity of ages and occupations in the group fosters a great environment for new friendships and unique, meaningful projects.”
