The Community Foundation for SW Washington carries on the annual tradition of recognizing Clark County’s First Citizen. This year, Nan Henriksen will be honored during Clark County’s 75th Annual First Citizen Award Ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, October 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. The event will open with a social hour featuring an array of beverages and hors d’oeuvres. A formal award presentation with elements representing Henriksen’s varied roles and contributions in Clark County will follow. The First Citizen Award is Clark County’s highest distinction of citizenship, awarded for demonstrating exemplary service to our community. Henriksen was selected by a volunteer committee of community leaders and past recipients for her many personal and professional contributions to our region. Henriksen was a mother, businesswoman and Camas’ first female Mayor. Serving in that role for nearly a decade, Nan steered Camas away from economic hardship by developing a long-term city plan that focused on diversifying local industry.
More recently, she led the advocacy effort and creation of Clark County’s home-rule charter that has reshaped local government. She has also provided her leadership and planning expertise to various boards and committees over the years, leaving a positive imprint on regional land use planning and the quality of life in Washington State.
With the award Henriksen will receive an honorary plaque and a $1,000 contribution will be made to the charity of her choice.
