Aviation Explorers Take Flight

Aviation Exploring is a hands-on program open to young men and women from 14 to 20 years old with an interest in learning more about careers in aviation.

Aviation Explorer Post 1905 will host an open house for youth on Saturday, October 21, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Pearson Field Education Center, 201A East Reserve Street, Vancouver WA. Parents are also invited to attend and learn about the program. Hot dogs and snacks will be provided.

Explorers meet on the first and third Saturdays every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Meetings incorporate activities, field trips, and interactions with aviation professionals, exposing youth to potential careers in aviation. Explorers is also a leadership development forum, in which participating youth assume governance roles and determine the goals and direction of the group.

Aviation Explorers experience firsthand what it’s like to be a pilot, aircraft mechanic, aerospace engineer, flight attendant or air traffic controller. They visit airports, observe flight operations, and experience flying. Participants learn about the educational requirements and receive tangible advice on steps to take now to prepare for a successful career in the field of aviation.

“This open house will kick off the second year of the program,” said Rob Reinebach, aviation instructor at Cascadia Technical Academy and post associate advisor. “We are excited to open doors to aviation for the youth in our community.”

There is no charge to attend the open house. If youth decide to join the post, the annual dues are $27. Pearson Field Education Center is in a hangar on Pearson Field, at 201A East Reserve Street, Vancouver WA 98661.

The Pearson Field Education Center is a program of The Historic Trust, a 501c3 nonprofit since 1998. Pearson Field Education Center delivers experiential, aviation-based science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs for youth. It is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for youth and families to enjoy free activities such as glider building, flight simulation, and other educational aviation fun.
