Behind the Scenes at the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens

hey! sharing is caring :)

Each year, thousands of visitors step back in time to discover the 1880’s Victorian farmhouse and country gardens that comprise the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens. The Master Gardener Foundation of Clark County presents “Behind the Scenes at the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens” with Ruth Wendt, a member of the Hulda Klager Lilac Society and a volunteer at the gardens for 25 years.

Hulda Klager began hybridizing lilacs in 1905 and by 1920, had developed so many new varieties that she decided to open her gardens each spring when the lilacs were in full bloom to share her efforts with other lilac enthusiasts. That practice is carried on today by the Hulda Klager Lilac Society, a nonprofit volunteer organization, that continues to grow and nurture the lilacs in the gardens.

Ruth Wendt, a member of the Hulda Klager Lilac Society and a volunteer at the gardens for 25 years, will discuss not only how volunteers take care of this remarkable site, but will also share information about lilac care and some of the more recent research on lilacs. Although Ruth never met Hulda Klager, she feels as if she knows her through her garden.

Behind the Scenes at the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens will be on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at 7:00 PM in the CASEE Center, Bldg B, Rm 202/205 located at 11104 NE 149th St, Brush Prairie WA. This meeting is free to the public and members. No registration required.

The Master Gardener Foundation holds monthly educational meetings, the first Tuesday of each month, except January, July and August. The meetings are held at 7:00 PM at the CASEE Center, Bldg B, Room 202/205, 11104 NE 149th St, Brush Prairie WA.
