On October 30th at 7:00 pm, in celebration of the 76th anniversary of the original radio broadcast of “War of the Worlds”, Willamette Radio Workshop will re-enact the broadcast live in front of an audience at Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver.
This FREE event is part of “Radio Re-Imagined,” a creative and collaborative project bringing together talent from Washington State University Vancouver’s (WSUV) Creative Media and Digital Culture program, Willamette Radio Workshop and the Kiggins Theatre.
“War of the Worlds”, directed by Sam A. Mowry, is the first in a series of multimedia presentations that will take place at Kiggins Theatre. The focus of this collaboration is to introduce student works alongside the live broadcasts.
“War of the Worlds” was originally broadcast Oct. 30, 1938, by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theater. The story was based on the novel of the same name by H.G. Wells. The plot focuses on the conflict between earth and an invading extraterrestrial race. The 23 year old Welles, caused a nationwide panic with his broadcast of a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth.
