Lilac Days 2015

hey! sharing is caring :)

This time of year the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens, a local historical treasure in Woodland, WA, begins to bloom and come alive with color.  This is why the Hulda Klager Lilac Society opens up the farm for “Lilac Days”. Begining this Saturday, April 18th through May 10th (10:00 am to 4:00 pm), come out and visit the gardens to see more than 90 varieties of lilacs and take a stroll around the Victorian gardens. This event is $3.00 per person admission, which goes to support the non-profit organization that manages the property and Lilac Society.

To make your visit more memoriable, be sure not to miss the Annual Jane Kirkpatrick Day at the Lilac Gardens on Sunday, April 26th  and and experience the inspiration for Jane Kirkpatrick’s book Where Lilacs Still Bloom. Jane will be onsite from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for a book signing.

Lilac plants will be availble to purchase. Sales help fund the care of the Gardens and Historic buildings.

About the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens
In 1905 Hulda Klager began hybridizing lilacs and by 1910 she had created 14 new varieties. By 1920 she had developed so many new varieties that she decided to hold an open house each spring when the lilacs were in full bloom to share her efforts with other lilac enthusiasts. This practice caused her to become known as “The Lilac Lady.”

The Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens are a beautiful and exquisite example of the turn of the century garden. The members of the Lilac Society put in many hours of hard work hoeing, spraying, weeding and pruning in order to restore the gardens to the condition they enjoyed under Hulda Klager’s care. The farmhouse on the property was also restored and turned into a museum to honor The Lilac Lady. Much of Hulda Klager’s own furniture has been returned, along with other pioneer-era treasures from the Woodland area.
