Give More 24!

hey! sharing is caring :)

Marathons are pretty popular here in the Pacific NW. Well, here’s a marathon that you can do that requires NO TRAINING whatsoever! Southwest Washington’s annual online giving marathon will launch at midnight on Thursday, September 24, 2015. The event, called Give More 24!, invites residents from across Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania Counties to visit www.Give-More-24.org and give collectively—as one community—for 24 hours. Each gift received will be tallied on the website in real time until 11:59:59 p.m. at which point the 24-hour community giving marathon will come to a close.

Charitable contributions can be made to any of the 111 participating nonprofits, and a generous group of individuals and businesses have funded a $75,000 stretch pool that will multiply every donation submitted through www.give-more-24.org on September 24. Prize sponsorships will also increase the chances for nonprofits to win one of twenty $1,000 prizes throughout the day. Descriptions of these prizes are available on the event website as well.

Last year, 1,262 unique donors gave 1,842 gifts to raise more than $426,000 during the 24-hour period. Jennifer Rhoads, President of the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington, said that the bar has been set higher this year with the aim to raise $750,000 during Give More 24!

“We know that there are thousands of additional residents who care about supporting local causes, and we’re trying to engage more of them this year,” Rhoads said. “This event is a great example of how we all have the ability to make southwest Washington a little better, because every contribution makes a difference to these nonprofits.”

The 111 organizations participating in Give More 24! each operate programs that serve southwest Washington and are categorized into ten cause areas that include animals, arts and culture, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, hunger, social services and youth development. Visitors can search by general cause area or specific nonprofit names to find organizations that they want to support. Additionally, the site allows users to tap their social networks and rally friends and family members to join them in giving to local organizations.

Rhoads said that another goal of this event is to make giving more accessible. To encourage this, Give More 24! has a relatively low minimum donation of $10. According to donors who participated last year, the Give More 24! site also made it simple to give by offering an easy-to-use directory of participating nonprofits and simple, secure donation forms.

Anyone interested in contributing on Thursday, September 24 can learn more and sign up to participate at www.give-more-24.org.
