Community Foundation Accepting Scholarship Applications

Organization provided more than $400,000 in scholarships to students in 2014.

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington has opened its 2015 scholarship application process, with most application deadlines closing on April 30. This year introduces an online application portal for students, which can be found at www.cfsww.org/how-we-grant/scholarships. The Foundation’s program and scholarship associate Ellora La Shier explained that the new system provides specific descriptions for scholarship funds managed by the Community Foundation, as well as a user-friendly interface that makes the application process more efficient and intuitive for all students.

Last year, the Community Foundation and its donors awarded a total of $430,254 in scholarships to a diverse group of 225 students who were enrolled in classes during the 2014-2015 academic year. Recipients include high school seniors, current college students and other students, such as those attending a private school. La Shier said students are extremely grateful to receive these scholarships, because the funds are an enormous help in easing the exorbitant financial obligations of continuing or advanced education.

“Students confront a harsh reality when it comes to financing their education these days.” La Shier said. “Thanks to our generous fundholders we are able help by directing charitable dollars toward the educational goals and, more importantly, lifelong dreams of local students.”

Established in 1984, the Community Foundation helps southwest Washingtonians build a more vibrant community by inspiring investments in local philanthropy. The Foundation holds more than 290 distinct funds, which are actively invested to generate growth and income for granting purposes. Governed by an esteemed volunteer Board, the Community Foundation offers benefits and services to donors, nonprofits and the community at large. Learn more at www.cfsww.org.
