Ask yourself… Are you ready for a disaster? Can your neighborhood be self-sufficient for at least three days after a disaster? Who will help the injured and rescue trapped victims in your neighborhood if rescuers are not available?
The CERT class is a national program through FEMA/Citizen Corps that trains citizens how to manage their homes and neighborhoods in the time between the occurrence of a major disaster and the time when professional responders can get to them. The course that includes topics such as operating within the Incident Command System, disaster psychology, light search and rescue, fire suppression and disaster medical operations. The class culminates with a final drill with moulaged volunteer victims in a simulated disaster which the participants have to manage.
The class is a joint venture between Clark County Fire District 6 and Vancouver Fire Department and the next class starts on February 19th.
