Camas First Friday in Plein Air

hey! sharing is caring :)

Experience art in Downtown Camas in “Plein Air” this First Friday, September 4, 2015. Artists will line 4th Avenue from Adams to Dallas to “paint the town” all throughout the day. You can stroll along 4th Avenue and watch the artists’ craft in plein air style between 9am and 4pm. Plein Air is the French tradition where artists paint the landscape in the “open air.”

The finished pieces will then be on display at the Camas Gallery, 408 NE 4th, from 5-8 pm that evening. The community will vote for its favorites and “People Choice Awards” will be given. These works of art will then be auctioned off to benefit the Camas Washougal Mural Project at the Dinner in White on the Columbia on Saturday, September 12th.

Other art features and activities that night are: Elida Field’s Art, Women and Wine artists will be in participating merchant locations; Meet the artists, enjoy the art, and be entered to win prizes from the merchants (Participation lists can be found at the DCA table near 4th and Birch). Second Story Gallery, 625 NE 4th, will be presenting the fiber art show What’s BLUE to You?, a themed collection of fabric panels created by High Fiber Diet. This group of fiber artists will be in the Gallery at an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m., with live music provided by Jeremy Tuell. Kids’ art crafts and coloring contest (at the DCA table near 4th & Birch), Selfie Photo Booth and live local music throughout town.

“This is one of our favorite events because it is all about local art!” says Carrie Schulstad, Executive Director of the Downtown Camas Association (DCA). “We have such incredible talent in our area and the artists bring this in full display at this First Friday. Engaging with the artists and learning more about art is a fantastic way to build art appreciation in our community.”

First Fridays are Art, Activities, Dining, and After Hours Shopping themed family friendly events coordinated by the DCA each month of the year to support downtown and bring the community together.
