Step up to the Plate and Hear the Pitch.
The open house will be in the conference room at Clark Regional Wastewater District, 8000 NE 52nd Court, Vancouver . People can stop by anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to look at display materials and talk to project staff. No formal presentation will be made.
Information will be available about the overall project design, traffic and noise studies, environmental considerations, stormwater treatment and adjacent neighborhood park. The same information will be available on the project’s Web page beginning May 7.
The sports fields will be built on a portion of a 20-acre, county-owned piece of land on the north side of Northeast 78th Street, about one-quarter mile west of St. Johns Road.
The project design includes:
• one large sports field for baseball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and rugby
• two medium-sized Little League fields
• two small tee-ball fields
• batting cages
• restrooms/concession building
• parking lots
• access roads
• separated pedestrian/bicycle paths
• sidewalks on Northeast 82nd Street in front of the park
• nature trails, a bench and picnic table in the neighborhood park on the property’s north side
The Hazel Dell sports fields project is currently in the design and permitting phase. The county will hold a public land use hearing this summer as part of the permitting process. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2011.
The sports fields’ design and construction will be paid for with real estate excise taxes, which are collected whenever property is sold. The Greater Clark Parks District, a special district voters in the unincorporated urban area approved in 2005, will pay for maintenance after construction.
